“Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.” - James Baldwin, Writer and Activist
In honor of Black History Month, Heart of Florida United Way and Central Florida Public Media invite you to a special community showing of the 2023 film “Know Your Place,” a deeply introspective film that illuminates realities in Central Florida’s not-so-distant past.
Featuring prominent community voices like Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings, State Senator Geraldine Thompson, Former Ninth Circuit Chief Judge Belvin Perry, and more, “Know Your Place” shares the personal stories of Central Floridians who have faced racism, segregation, and bias throughout their lives.
Following the film, there will be a meaningful conversation to bring experiences seen on the screen into the reality of today. Experiencing this film with a young adult will allow for a shared experience and opportunity to learn from the past and help guide the future. This is a free community event, but space is limited to a first-come, first-served basis.
Heart of Florida United Way is committed to making our events accessible to everyone. If you have a question or require an accommodation or service to fully participate, please contact HFUWevents@hfuw.org at least 7 days prior to the event.
